Why having a fireproof safe in your home is important

I recently discovered a website that agrees with me and how I strongly advocate for fireproof safes.  I read an article sharing how Home Safes are showing up in houses around the globe.

The author shares that though fireproof safes are not made all made alike, the need for them in our homes is of utmost importance.  Though the majority of home safes (and fireproof safes to be specific) are intended specifically for personal use this is probably the biggest thing I advocate for.  While it is important for businesses to protect their important documents, the sentimental value in personal belongings does not generally translate to business.

The importance of protecting things like our personal computer data (family pictures and videos), special belongings such as jewelery, and other sentimental items, and key documents like passports and birth certificates does not need to be explained.  We intrinsically understand that losing these items can be emotionally (and financially) devastating.

Why individuals aren't pro-active or put off the purchase of an item like a fireproof safe is beyond me.  It defies logic that people wouldn't naturally recognize the importance of buying a fireproof safe for their house.

If you are looking for good deals and wanting to gain some further insight and information on fireproof safes then you can take a look at this website that offers some quality recommendation on house safes.

Biometric Safes a revolution in security

I recently discovered a safe called the Barska Biometric Safe, which is amazing because it is the perfect safe for anyone who has trouble remembering where they put their keys!  Keys are bulky and easily misplaced, however this biometric safe reads your fingerprint (actually up to 30 programmed in users) and opens the safe for registered users.

I was skeptical about the reliability of a biometric safe, but after some research I'm fairly confident the safe will open accurately and quickly, and most importantly only for those individuals who have programmed their fingerprints into the safe.

This Barska safe does come with some backup keys which can be safely stowed away in case one needs to access it with the keys (such as if the batteries that power the electronic lock die).

Perhaps the batteries are the only downfall in a safe of this nature, since it has the ongoing expense of replacing those batteries.  Still it doesn't consume a whole lot of power and if only opened periodically those batteries should last a long time.

Why Fireproof?

I've recently become very concerned with the issue of fireproofing, as some personal experiences have led me to realize the importance and value of protecting important information from fire and other natural disasters.

I have some close friends whose house recently burned down.  The husband was self employed and worked out of the home, all his important business documents, including tax information, payroll, etc. were stored in the house both in paper form and some on his computer.  He had even backed up his computer data so he wasn't at all ignorant as to the importance of these documents and storing it properly.

Of course, when the unexpected happened and the house fire struck all information was lost.  The paper documents, the computer information and even the backups.  This catastrophic event was disastrous for his family of course, but also for his business.

From this experience I've become an extreme advocate for fireproof safes and other important security measures that individuals, families and businesses should be taking when it comes to critical documents and precious memories.  Not only did my friend lose business information and of course all their personal belongings, but in addition his families photos and other small valuables and sentimental items were destroyed in the fire.

Fire wreaks havoc, and it can never be anticipated, in fact no one expects fire to happen to them.  Making a choice to be proactive about the possibility of fire and other natural disasters (perhaps flood? or earthquake damage?) is a wise move, and one that I'm now encouraging all my friends and family to make!

The most simple option is a fireproof safe.  Other logical choices include storing backups in separate physical locations from the originals.  Safety deposit boxes would be another wise move.

I intend to use this blog to publish my findings and opinions about fireproof safes and other fireproof methods.  Hope you stay tuned as I update regularly!
